about the artist.

Origins commissioned by World Book International, Chicago, USA - 1991

Origins, commissioned by
World Book International,
Chicago, USA - 1991

Davson’s professional career spans almost
3 decades, yet she has created quite a small number of paintings for an internationally renowned artist.

Since her first sell-out solo exhibition of drawings held in Sydney in 1982, Davson has created only 80 paintings, mostly sold before completion and housed around the world.

This is an unusual circumstance for a professional artist who’s paintings frequently command high profile status. This is a very small number of works
for a professional artist who has lived from the sale
of her art for nearly 30 years.

Throughout the decades, the value of her paintings has continuously risen (doubling in value approximately every five years).

So why has this artist chosen to paint so few art works?

Davson has devoted much of her talents and resources to assisting endangered species awareness, world peace initiatives and other causes.
(She founded two charitable organisations which also attracted the attention of celebrity leaders around the world.)

And importantly for collectors,

Since 1984, the majority of Davson’s paintings have been sold on commission,
that is sold before they were created
to specific people, corporations and / or clubs.

This has made it difficult for collectors / investors to acquire Davson paintings.

In support of Pat Farmer's Pole to Pole run, Davson has arranged for affiliated art works to be available for purchase, with a portion of their value being allocated for this purpose.

Turning Point

When we think of a great artist, there will only be a handful of images for which they are truly remembered.

Are you the cultural leader who will own such a work?

Davson’s painting, Turning Point, bears the hallmark of such significance. Its positive cultural credibility and historical journey reaches out in unique ways that can’t be emulated.

This ten year old painting maps out the shared imagination of a record-breaking sportsman and a spiritual artist. It garnishes a story of the past with a vision for the future. Its relevance in Pat Farmer’s quest to be the first person to run from Pole to Pole is illuminating and its title powerfully poignant.

This is an artwork that defines an exceptionally determined man, created by an exceptionally compassionate artist. It has every right to be one of only a handful of images which are truly remembered.

As Pat Farmer said . . .
“A decade ago, I was so impressed with her art that
I commissioned her to create a painting for me.
She did, and it is a beautiful visual narrative of my life.”

And now, the Turning Point painting has even greater meaning, as it helps fund essential back-up support for Pat Farmer’s incredible run from the North Pole to the South Pole in
2011 - 2012.

This is the first time an international sporting event has generated necessary funds from the sale of an artwork that contributed to inspiring that event. There is a powerful beauty in appreciating how the Pole to Pole
run
connects with this image. Turning Point is about to change the world!

So, both this painting and its new owner(s) will feature prominently within this international sporting event which spans over a dozen countries during the course of
2011 - 2012.

As Turning Point’s new owner, you would enjoy the benefits of positive cultural credibility. This investment is
positioned to increase in value both financially and historically. Its image and title are at the heart of dynamic leadership in the arts, sport, community and charitable ventures.

Turning Point by Davson the artist represents a unique combination of artistic investment and philanthropic aspirations.

about the painting . . .

Shortly after their first meeting, Farmer spoke to Davson of a time when he was running from Sydney to Melbourne ...

“I was near Goulburn…
It was early morning and very cold. My whole body was in pain and I considered retiring from the race. Then I came over a hill and was inspired and encouraged by the natural beauty of the landscape. Mist was rising around trees surrounded by water, the sky was tinged with reds and a bird flew overhead guiding me forward.”

Farmer had reached a turning point in the race, finding inner strength to continue and ultimately win.

Turning Point echoes that breakthrough of inner strength and tranquillity achieved through inspired mental determination. The observer’s eye is drawn along an open Book of Life
that extends into the distance forming a road. Cameo appearances from Pat Farmer life’s journey and as a long distance runner surround this road. Glimpses from Davson’s vocabulary of images; the key, the scales and the rings of relationship add further dimensions to the painting’s storytelling.

Detailed images are positioned to reflect how a long distance runner would be taking in the view of his surroundings.

To the left, one of Australia’s most adaptable marsupials, the beautiful Sugar Glider surveys the scene whilst precariously balanced on a set of scales. To the right, an Eastern Bearded Dragon looks on. In the top right hand corner a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo hovers over the scene, radiating the light of creation and illuminating those below.

The image portrays an inspirational theme with various layers of interpretation. Each brush stroke heralding memory and meaning on this haunting journey.
